The Evil Dead (1981)

Violence, heart-wrenching horror, bloody effects. This movie has it all! It grips the heart and mind of one who watches all the events unfold! Five adults spend a weekend at a cabin in the mountains. One of them finds a book and a tape recorder in a basement and plays it. It is an audio diary of a man who recounts his battle with the demons that possess the living when awakened. The incantation he recites on tape reawakens the demons, and one by one the current residents fight for their lives!

The demons possess the trees, tormenting a woman who walks out to find out who or what is causing such a stir in the woods. Highly unbelievable is the way the roots move without any visible harness that control these appendages. A victim of possessed trees shows genuine panic as she is "raped", traumatized that something controlling these trees is coming for her. She shows that she must take shelter before she is possessed.

Extensive and flawless makeup has truly given these victims the looks of being possessed. Their voices, their eyes, their skin and hair instil so much fear into whoever looks at them! It is tremendous how these demons torture everyone there, at night!

So the only way to 'save' the one who is possessed by these demons is to decapitate them. Plenty animatronics have been employed to give these body parts feeling. Horror is intensified by the prolonged howling and spewing of bodily fluids as they are chopped up into pieces! Truly magnificent!

The final scene shows how near death one last man is when he struggles to burn the "book of the dead." By burning the book, he destroys the demon-possessed victims; the scene is overwhelmingly shocking! The stop-motion adds a lot to the spine-chilling decay, which itself is long and tenuous. It scares the living daylight out of the audience; leaves an awful afterthought so nightmarish that it will be hard to sleep at night! A classic example of original horror! Demons take over the human vessel, and the vessel binds with them so that the monsters manifest into a horror from hell! Not to be trifled with! It is a truly scary movie!
